Sindre®400 launch
On 20 May Sindre®400 was presented to the press and invited guests at the head office in Malmö. Sindre®400, designed for industrial production and adapted to the LED industry, is Obducat’s first fully automated machine. It is the first of its kind world-wide and the launching met with keen international interest. The first machine was then delivered to UniLite Corporation in Taiwan, provider of LEDs, in the autumn of 2009. The Site Acceptance Test, as the last step of the delivery process, was received by Obducat in the beginning of February 2010 subsequent to the test production period meeting the requirements.
EU project 1: TERAMAGSTOR
TERAMAGSTOR is an EU funded project with the explicit aim of developing the next generation magnetic memory media with a memory capacity of 1 Tbit per square inch. Obducat was invited to participate and entered the project in February. Other participants include STMicroelectronics and FHR Anlagenbau.
EU project 2: SMASH
The year also saw the start of SMASH, another EU funded project in which Obducat is taking part. The purpose of the project is to establish new materials and process technologies to be used in low-cost, power-efficient, white LED sources for the general lighting market. The project is co-ordinated by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH and brings together expertise from across Europe.
New share issue
New issue of units with preferential rights for Obducat’s shareholders and holders of its 2008/2011 convertibles is implemented. The issue was fully subscribed, yielding the Company about SEK 74 M before issue expenses.
ESS
In June it became clear that Lund will be home to the European Spallation Source, ESS, complete with research facilities. For Obducat this decision means a number of future advantages, such as increased regional focus on research in nanotechnology, for instance within materials development of synthetic structures, and not least an improved basis for future recruitment.
New market: Russia
In August Obducat landed its first order in an entirely new market – Russia. The order is for the Eitre®6 NIL system. The order was placed by the Institute of Semiconductor Physics in Novosibirsk. Later during the year another Russian order was received, this time from Moscow.
