Magnetic storage media
Magnetic storage media
Another name for hard disks. The ever increasing demand for storage capacity generated by multi media applications in particular, drives the progress towards extremely small components. The present market expects technological solutions with a so-called pitch of 60 nanometres. The speed with which development in the area is progressing is a question of wait-and-see while at the same time being very high, making the situation difficult to assess. Obducat is active within its partner network focusing on the next generation hard disks and DTR (Discrete Track Recording). Obducat also participates in the EU funded TERAMAGSTOR project aimed at producing the technology platform for the next generation magnetic storage media with a memory density greater than 1 terabit per square inch.
